in France, I hear you say. It is a very dusty, dirty and sometimes dangerous
job, but I love it. Here's why. |

| The more I saw amazing ancient buildings, the
more I learned of the countrys fascinating history and the more I fell
in love with it. In 2005 I bought a 16th Century 'pile of stones' that
the notaire described as a farmhouse and collection of barns. I soon set
about trying to transform it into a habitable dwelling which, even armed
with my many years of experiences in renovation, still took a couple of
years of 'Channel-hopping' to get right. In 2007 however, the will to
move to France proved too strong and I moved in. After many years of running a business with employees and relying on sub-contractors I felt I wanted to work by myself. It had to be an “in-and-out” activity that didn’t tie me down to one site for months at a time, and something with variety, something that would give me the chance to work on more interesting properties, and which covered a larger area of France to allow me to feed my passion to see as much of it as I could. |

| By now I had made many new friends who where in the process
of renovating their own places or working in the renovation field, and
on several occasions I heard them say that they had struggled to find
a cost effective, reliable sandblasting contractor. As I had often used
sandblasting equipment during renovating properties in the UK before,
the light bulb began to flicker. In 2008 I set up my business "Service de Preparation SARL" and although it's been a long and winding road I now have friends and clients all over France and regular work in Paris for a powder-coating company. I still struggle to perfect my French but have many clients who tell me it is improving. There have been many challenges along the way and I am sure there will be many more, but would I change anything? No, not a thing, ... Vive la France! |
